‘Instigator’ is described as a Deep Blacked Plum with a retro matte finish. I have tried numerous plum lipsticks and have found that ones with blue undertones suit my skin tone better – which is why I love ‘Instigator’ so much! The bluer undertones give it that real plum color, and ones with red undertones tend to look more oxblood.

I thought ‘Instigator’ went on very well and seemed to make my lips darker as I continued applying. It lasted a long time on my lips and didn’t smear as easily as others do – most likely due to it’s matte finish.

Unfortunately, ‘Instigator’ is a limited edition shade so the only place that may have it is Ebay, where resellers double and triple the price of these sold out colors. Tips on perfecting the plum lip:

• Always exfoliate your lips first (try a sugar scrub)
• Use a lip conditioner (MAC has a great one!)
• Use a lip pencil to line your lips first
• Use a lip brush to apply the lipstick for an even finish
• Pair it with a brown smokey eye or black winged liner
